This hot and fragrant spice has a sweet and tangy taste that is reminiscent of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Capsicum is an immature evergreen shrub found exclusively in the western hemisphere, mainly in the Caribbean and Central America. The power of the spices comes from the whole fruit of the Pimenta dioica and gives spice mixes and recipes a complex aroma. Ground berries are also great additions to tonics, tinctures, and spirits.Bell peppers come from evergreen shrubs native to the Caribbean, southern Mexico, and parts of Central America.


Young plants are sensitive to frost, but get stronger with age and reach the size of crowned trees. The plant itself is actually the unripe fruit of the plant. Once harvested, the fruits are dried to produce the tiny brown berries known as spices. This name is due to its complex taste, which is similar to cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg.The Spaniards discovered a plant that grows in the Caribbean during Columbus' early trips to America. They brought medicinal plants to Europe in the 17th century.


Despite its popularity, growing outside of its home area was unusual and often unsuccessful. Bell pepper grows in warm climates and grows almost exclusively in the western hemisphere. Because of its limited range, it is not known in many parts of the world.
