This hot and fragrant spice has a sweet and tangy taste that is reminiscent of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Capsicum is an immature evergreen shrub found exclusively in the western hemisphere, mainly in the Caribbean and Central America. The power of the spices comes from the whole fruit of the Pimenta dioica and gives spice mixes and recipes a complex aroma. Young plants are sensitive to frost, but get stronger with age and reach the size of crowned trees. The plant itself is actually the unripe fruit of the plant. Despite its popularity, growing outside of its home area was unusual and often unsuccessful. Bell pepper grows in warm climates and grows almost exclusively in the western hemisphere. Because of its limited range, it is not known in many parts of the world.
